5 things to know before watching Classroom of the Elite Season 2

Season 2 of Classroom of the Elite started a few days ago on our platform in VOSTFR (and soon in VF) but it took five years to discover the rest of the adventures of the elite students on our screens. So a little memory refresh to make the most of the new episodes to be found every week on Crunchyroll.

Being an elite is not all you can imagine - Classroom of the Elite

The basic concept of the anime is as follows: in the near future, Japan's most promising students join Tokyo High School, an institution established by the Japanese government. In theory, all of its graduates end up doing well in life. While studying there, students have an idyllic life and are awarded points which they can use as money to buy whatever they want. Sounds wonderful, but it's a deception, at least for 2D students. High school actually operates as a kind of extreme meritocracy in which those at the bottom of the ladder have a pretty stressful experience. In the first season, this reality is very quickly revealed and the protagonists will continue to struggle in the second season. In this establishment, being part of the elite is not a privilege, it is something that must be earned by blood, sweat and tears.

philosophers and thinkers - Classroom of the Elite

Every Season 1 episode title and the opening seconds of them are quotes from a known thinker, philosopher, or writer. The first of these is by Friedrich Nietzsche with an excerpt from The Antichrist: "What is bad? Everything that comes from weakness." In 12 episodes, we find sentences related to human nature from personalities such as François de La Rochefoucauld, Adam Smith, Jean-Paul Sartre, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Jean de La Fontaine, Dante Alighieri, Soren Kierkegaard or even Arthur Schopenhauer. If you're not very attentive during your philosophy classes, Classroom of the Elite is here to bring you some knowledge and wisdom. Isn't this an additional argument that makes the series worth watching? The first episode of the new season also confirms that the initial scheme is repeated again, this time with a quote from Horace that we let you discover.

Kiyotaka Ayanokoji is no ordinary student - Classroom of the Elite

Anime protagonists are rarely ordinary and Kiyotaka Ayanokōji is no exception to the rule. What sets him apart is that it's obvious from the start that he's extremely talented...except in the art of going unnoticed. He was accepted into the academy after achieving something even more difficult than getting perfect marks in the entrance exams: getting exactly 50% mark in all subjects. As a result, he found himself assigned to the 2nd D class. In his desire to go unnoticed in order to live an ordinary school life, Kiyotaka ended up putting a target on his back. Also, unlike the usual protagonists, the boy is anything but pure and kind. Kiyotaka's motivations and actions are not easy to pin down in the first season. But it became clear that we were dealing with someone cold and calculating, able to manipulate anyone and anything to get their way.

You can't trust anyone - Classroom of the Elite

There are all kinds of conflicting personalities in this series. Our main character is also a good example with his hidden face. But Kikyô Kushida is undoubtedly the most extreme case of the first season. In the very first episode, she appears as a sweet, friendly girl who tries to help an old woman on the bus, asking if anyone would mind giving her up. In the third episode, we discover her other facet, that of a resentful, violent, malicious and psychopathic girl. From egoists like Rokusuke Kōenji of 2dC to die-hard sadists like Kakeru Ryūenil of 2dC, it's nearly impossible to fully trust anyone at this establishment. And you are not at the end of your surprises with season 2!

The exam is far from over - Classroom of the Elite

Classroom of the Elite In the first season, we learn about Tokyo's top high school's unique education method and how it grades its students. The very first special exam involved taking students to a deserted island where they had to survive for a week with a series of rules to earn (and lose) points. At the end of this test, the 2de D class came out on top against all odds, but like everything else in Classroom of the Elite, nothing should be taken for granted... The new season picks up the story where it left off: on the boat and the new exam has only just begun!

The anime is based on the light novels by Shogo Kinugasa and Sunsaku Tomose. A visual bringing together several of the main characters (below) had been shared after being teased for several weeks. As a reminder, season 3 has already been formalized and dated for 2023.
Classroom of the Elite II has two chief directors: Hiroyuki Hashimoto (ESTAB LIFE: Great Escape) and Seiji Kishi (Assasination Classroom) and is directed by Yoshihito Nishoji at Studio Lerche (Toilet-bound Hanako-kun, given), with composition series by Hayato Kazano and chara designs by Kazuaki Morita (Assassination Classroom).
ZAQ and Mai Fuchigami perform respectively the opening and ending of the new season.
